Tires and weather present challenges at Phoenix International Raceway
The newly paved track at Daytona gave the drivers, crews and owners several breaks throughout the week. The drivers had cars with a lot of grip that allowed them to race hard. The owners saved money on tires with less tire changing, and the crews had fast pit stops spending less time on pit road with most teams opting to just refuel or change left side tires instead of changing all four tires.
Phoenix International Raceway changes the complexion of racing completely. Competitors in all three of NASCAR's top series this weekend will need to drive their cars. Instead of having their foot in the gas all the way around the track, drivers will be braking in turns and planning passes without the help of a partner.
