The NASCAR Sprint Cup ROTY Title should have been shelved for 2010
With the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup season approaching fast, we have to wonder if the 2010 Rookie of the Year has worn out his welcome in Sprint Cup. Kevin Conway only participated in 28 of the 36 races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit. In those 28 races he never finished better than 27th. Well, let's adjust that. He finished 14th in the summer race at Daytona. That race was a wreck-fest that saw most of the field taken out by mishaps.
Conway came to NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on the coat tails of major sponsorship, but no winning racing pedigree to speak of except some success in motocross and Legends cars. So how is it that he made it this far? Surely he must have had some talent to get picked up by Joe Gibbs Racing as a developmental driver. A quick look at Conway's website bio alludes to him being a success in the seven NASCAR Nationwide Series races he drove for JGR with top fives and top tens among Nationwide only competitors, but a look at the real stats show that his best finish was 20th. Fifty percent of those seven races he finished 30th or worse before he was released.
