Slurred Words On Motorsports - by RC Shivers

I Eat, Sleep and Breathe NASCAR!! I have raced in several divisions on the local level and been a crew member for a NASCAR Modified Tour competitor. My involvement in the sport dates back to the beginning of NASCAR's modern era. I give you an experienced inside look at the sport including news directly from Charlotte, the heart of NASCAR competition.

So grab a cold drink, set up your chair, turn on the tube, put on your scanner head phones and get ready for SLURRED WORDS ON MOTORSPORTS.

SLURRED WORDS ON MOTORSPORTS IS ALL YOUR NASCAR NEWS IN ONE PLACE!!!!!

Video: Closest Auto Racing Finish In History!

At the risk of driving my F1 and Indy Car friends crazy, I present to you the two closest finishes in any racing series on four wheels.

Looking back at the closest finishes on four wheels, NASCAR takes the honor on more than one level. The funny thing about the two closest finishes is that a Busch brother was involved in each one. Just this year at the in the Camping World Truck Series Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega, Aric Amirola took his truck out of the last turn in the lead, but on the dog leg that the finish line sits on Kyle Busch, in his classic bad boy style throws it all to caution and almost wrecks as he managed to edge out Amirola by .002 seconds. There is controversy that NASCAR recalled that number to .003, which opens the door for the previous closest finish on four wheels....read on after the videoafter the jump

It was back in 2003. Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch were racing for the win at Darlington in the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400. It was the elder Busch's bad boy days, back when Jimmy Spencer wanted to end Kurt's career. The two cars came out of turn foour racing for the win at the historic track. As they came across the line Craven edged Busch out by .002 seconds and that time went down in racing history.

Watch the video and read more about F1 and Indy Car.

There are fans that would argue that F1 has the closest competition or that Indy Car is the most competitive. Let's be honest...except for a few talented drivers, Indy serves as feeder to F1 and NASCAR. In their biggest race, of which I am a huge fan, retired drivers and drivers from feeder series come out of the woodwork to see if they can qualify...then disappear into anonymity again.

F1 surely has the best technology, but I wonder if that takes away from the job of the driver. No doubt that opinion will piss off F1 purists, but why is it that no F1 drivers that have made the switch from F1 to NASCAR have been able to do anything substantial in the heavy more driver sensitive machines since Mario Andretti. Sure Juan Pablo Montoya has finally come into his own, but that has been a long learning curve. Whatever the case may be the closest F1 finish of all time was at the United States Grand Prix in 2002 when Rubens Barrichello finished 0.011s ahead of Michael Schumacher. Then again F1 purists will argue that classic races may have been closer, but F1 did not time past the second decimal back when.

All in all, I have to say, I am a NASCAR fan, but I am a race fan. I love F1 and Indy as well. The numbers show it and the popularity among drivers show it. They all want to make a name in NASCAR.
