Pastrana-Mania vs. Bayne-O-Mania - Big stories overshadow Sprint Cup action at Phoenix
It may seem like it is supposed to be about the Sprint Cup series as NASCAR rolls into Phoenix International Raceway this week, but the big stories coming off of Daytona last week and the debut of the extreme sports star Travis Pastrana may change the focus of attention.
Trevor Bayne's win at Daytona is the story of the week, but the young driver has chosen to stick with a run at the championship in the NASCAR Nationwide Series instead of making a run for Sprint Cup Rookie of The Year. Bayne is in the middle of a media whirlwind and still pinching himself to make sure it is all real. The talent is there. He has been proving himself up the ladder for several years. The surprise at Daytona was that it was the biggest stage he could possibly have made a statement on. Although he has chosen to stay with his original decision to earn points for a Nationwide Championship, he will be competing in both Nationwide and Sprint Cup this weekend.
