Bobby Labonte Has New Life In 2011
With all the young guys coming into top level NASCAR racing it's easy to forget about some of the guys who fall by the wayside due to car owners that didn't make long term business plans for their race teams. Bobby Labonte was the 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion and along with Tony Stewart raised Joe Gibbs Racing to one of the premier teams in NASCAR. Under the Coach's guidance and complete long term business plan Labonte just had to drive.
After leaving Joe Gibb's Racing and putting in some good years with Richard Petty's #43 Bobby Labonte made the daring move to Hall Of Fame Racing. On the surface it wasn't a bad move. Labonte had success with football related NASCAR teams. Owner Jeff Moorad came with a sports pedigree, owning part of the Arizona Diamondbacks and brokering a deal to gain control of the San Diego Padres in 2009. Along with Troy Aikman and Roger Starbach, they had significant name power to assure quality sponsorship.
