VIDEO: Richard Petty's Two Worst Wrecks
Richard Petty is my hero. Yep, I said it and I mean it. I have a tattoo of the #43 car surfin out of a Daytona wave inked on my back. He is everything NASCAR is about from the beginning to now. Even in financial trouble because of George Gillette and failed sale of his Liverpool team, the whole NASCAR community stands behind 'The King'.
He's been around forever and in addition to all his records, wins and championships in NASCAR competition, he is also the reason behind some of the most significant safety advances.
Take a look at Richard Petty wrecking at Darlington in 1970. No window net, and a wall disintegrated. Then jump ahead 28 years to the last few years of his legendary NASCAR career and his wreck at Daytona, which brought on additional safety modifications to the body of the modern cars.It makes you wonder how he is still alive? I am for one am glad he is. Richard Petty is my hero!!!
