NASCAR deals with consequences of wholesale changes
For the first time in quite a while NASCAR saw a shortage of cars to fill out the field in the NASCAR Nationwide series while racing at Phoenix International Raceway. On The Sprint Cup side of NASCAR, the number of 'start and park' competitors has grown over the last several seasons due to the cost of racing and the lack of sponsorship in a tough economy.
Some competitors on the front lines of NASCAR's top series such as Brian Keselowski mentioned during the whirlwind of media attention that was Daytona Speedweeks that running NASCAR's second tier series was almost as expensive as running the Sprint Cup series. The new cars and bodies in the Nationwide Series are as expensive to replace as going out and buying a used Sprint Cup machine.
