Richard Petty Regains Majority Control Of His Race Team

Richard Petty Motorsports struggled through most of the 2010 season. The last 10 races proved to be the hardest for the team that bares the name of The King of NASCAR. Even with top 10 finishes and top ten starts, the team was never sure when their cars would make it to the track or even if they would make it.

That's all changed now and a new guard has taken the reins...or should I say the old guard. Richard Petty and a group of financially solid investors have taken control and purchased the assets of Richard Petty Motorsports from former owner George Gillett Jr

NASCAR Pit Crew Steals The Title

With all the noise about Jimmie Johnson, somebody might want to point out that his crew absolutely sucks. Not only could they not get the job done for the #48 Lowes Chevy, but when Rick Hendrick made the over-the-wall crew swap between the #24 and #48 to help Johnson win his fifth straight championship, he screwed the #24 crew out of a lot of bonus money

Gordon's crew had been leading the fight for the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award. The fastest crew each week wins $5000 and a set of Tissot watches. At the end of the year, the leading crew wins a trip to the Nascar Sprint Cup Banquet to be awarded $105,000 and another set of Tissot watches

Rick Hendrick Plays Roulette With His NASCAR Sprint Cup Teams

Everything is topsy-turvy over at Hendrick Motorsports. In the biggest move of the 2010 NASCAR silly season Rick Hendrick, Owner of Hendrick Motorsports has played crew chief and Shop roulette with all his NASCAR Sprint Cup teams. Just days after Jimmie Johnson won his fifth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship, the team will be switching up shop partners.

Jimmie Johnson's team will be moving in with Dale Earnhardt Jr in his #88 Chevy, but the #88 crew chief Lance Mcgrew will be moving out. Mcgrew will head up the efforts of the #5 Mark Martin team and be replaced on the #88 by Jeff Gordon's crew chief Steve Letarte

Are NASCAR fans tired of Jimmie Johnson?

We've all heard it before. If that #48 wins another one, I'm just going stop watching NASCAR altogether. Jimmie Johnson's winning streak will be put to the test at the NASCAR Sprint Cup season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. In an unscripted twist of fate and fuel mileage the whole complexion of an already action packed Chase for The Championship has been turned upside down.

Jimmie Johnson in his #48 Lowes Chevy is still in the hunt for his fifth Sprint Cup Championship. After the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway Johnson sits 2nd in points separated from first place Denny Hamlin in his #11 Joe Gibbs(notes) FedEx Toyota by only 15 markers. Kevin Harvick in the #29 Richard Childress Racing prepared Chevy fills the bird dog seat in 3rd place only 46 points behind Hamlin and 31 points behind Johnson the four time champion

Video: Closest Auto Racing Finish In History!

At the risk of driving my F1 and Indy Car friends crazy, I present to you the two closest finishes in any racing series on four wheels.

Looking back at the closest finishes on four wheels, NASCAR takes the honor on more than one level. The funny thing about the two closest finishes is that a Busch brother was involved in each one. Just this year at the in the Camping World Truck Series Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega, Aric Amirola took his truck out of the last turn in the lead, but on the dog leg that the finish line sits on Kyle Busch, in his classic bad boy style throws it all to caution and almost wrecks as he managed to edge out Amirola by .002 seconds. There is controversy that NASCAR recalled that number to .003, which opens the door for the previous closest finish on four wheels....read on after the videoafter the jump

Fuel Mileage Turns the NASCAR Points Chase Upside Down

In an odd twist, the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway turned the NASCAR Chase for The Sprint Cup Championship upside down Sunday. With just 70 laps to go the Chase contenders were hoping for a caution that would allow them to pit for fuel.

Cousin Carl Edwards who won the Nationwide Series race on Saturday and the pole for the Sprint Cup race, took the lead late in the race. As Hamlin fell back he tried to conserve fuel, but he was told by his crew chief, he might have to pit and give up track position

VIDEO: Will The Famous #43 Ever Race In NASCAR Sprint Cup Again?

As of Wednesday afternoon, Richard Petty Motorsports haulers were still sitting empty in the parking lot at the Texas Motor Speedway. Parked next to them was an unmarked Roush Fenway Hauler containing the eight cars that Richard Petty drivers AJ Allmendinger, Elliot Sadler, Aric Amirola and Paul Menard were planning on racing at Phoenix.

The problem was that RPM still owed money on the cars and Roush Fenway could not release them to be taken to the next race

VIDEO: Richard Petty's Two Worst Wrecks

Richard Petty is my hero. Yep, I said it and I mean it. I have a tattoo of the #43 car surfin out of a Daytona wave inked on my back. He is everything NASCAR is about from the beginning to now. Even in financial trouble because of George Gillette and failed sale of his Liverpool team, the whole NASCAR community stands behind 'The King'.

He's been around forever and in addition to all his records, wins and championships in NASCAR competition, he is also the reason behind some of the most significant safety advances

VIDEO: Great NASCAR Wrecks - Jimmie Johnson - Watkins Glenn

Before Jimmie Johnson made a name for himself in NASCAR Sprint Cup, he made his way up like everyone else. Sometimes I wonder what the heck Jeff Gordon saw in this kid, but four championships later, it's hard to argue that point.

Jimmie made his way up on the west coast, he didn't do very well but he had backing from ALLTEL, so he got TV coverage. Back in 2000 when he was racing in the Busch Series, now Nationwide, he had what I think is the stupidest wreck I have ever seen

VIDEO: The Worst Wreck In NASCAR History!

Everybody watches NASCAR for the thrills. It could be the racing action, the fights or the crashes. Since the death of Dale Earnhardt, the cars have become safer and the safety devices used by drivers have improved drastically.

This is a wreck that has to be in the top 10 of all NASCAR wrecks. Its not the flipping...its total disintegration. Michael Waltrip was pushed up into the wall at Bristol in 1990. His car hit the track entrance gate at full throttle. Amazingly, he stepped from the car without any injuries. I saw this car at the Motorsports Hall Of Fame at Talladega. It sits there in three pieces.

VIDEO: Kyle Busch Flips The Bird At Texas

Kyle Busch is definitely a new style NASCAR bad boy. Tony Stewart and his little cranky fits don't even hold a candle to the attitude that Busch brings to the track. Just like Stewart, though, Kyle Busch can back up his attitude with stats in the win column.

Check out the video and then read the article to see what happened when he told the NASCAR official at Texas Motor Speedway's AAA Texas 500 that he was #1 in Kyle's book

VIDEO: Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton Throw Down Texas Style

The pressure of NASCAR Sprint Cup Racing came to a head at The Texas Motor Speedway AAA Texas 500 earlier today as 'Golden Boy' Jeff Gordon and the 'Mayor of NASCAR' Jeff Burton when at it, brawling Texas style.

Denny Hamlin Takes the NASCAR Sprint Cup Point Lead

The #11 Fedex Toyota race team turned up the heat at the Texas Motor Speedway Sunday. Just 34 points separated 1st through 3rd, and #48 Jimmy Johnson held the lead.

After a late race caution saw Jeff Burton put Jeff Gordon in the wall, Hendrick Chevy hierarchy replaced the championship crew of the Lowes Chevy team with Gordon's Dupont Chevy crew. Johnson's #48 crew had made several errors on pit road that had cost the driver, going for his fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship, multiple positions on the track

Kyle Bush Tells NASCAR Who's #1 With A Hand Gesture

Kyle Busch Penalized for Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Kyle Busch started the AAA Texas 500 fourth place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Points Championship. Busch had every chance to make significant gains in the standings, just 230 points behind, if he could run as well as he did after winning the CW Truck race on Friday or Saturday after he finished in second place in the Nationwide Series race

RIchard Petty And Earnhardt-Ganassi Make Announcements

Updates from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Garage

There are just three races left in the NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Just three drivers have a real shot at the title. Jimmie Johnson leads Denny Hamlin by just 14 points and Kevin Harvick is in third, a scant 38 behind the #48 Chevy driver on his "drive for five". Anything can happen in NASCAR Sprint Cup racing. With the fourth, fifth and sixth place teams within 247 point of first place, mechanical issues or bad luck could weigh heavily on the outcome of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship
